About Common Ground Two

Common Ground Two wants newcomers to feel welcome and at home in Utrecht. We offer a peaceful place to feel at ease by working together as gardeners and share, be proud and enjoy the joint harvest.

At Common Ground Two we make and help restore connections. Connection with eachother as a group, connection with yourself when you are focused on doing a little garden-job and connection with the beauty and power of nature. We grow vegetables, herbes, flowers and small fruit.
The main goal of Common Ground Two is to contribute to integration and participation of refugees in our city. The group-garden is our tool in this: a place to meet other people, a place for nice activities in and around the garden, in connection with the neighbourhood and the direct living environment.
Common Ground Two is part of Plan Einstein, the Utrecht program for integration of newcomers. We work together with Welkom in Utrecht and with Refugee Work of Plan Einstein. Both organisations help refugees finding their way to our gardens. Also we organise small activities together, for example in the context of the Summerprogram of Plan Einstein. With cultural centre Het Wilde Westen we share harvest to be used for (international) cooking-activities.

Stichting Utrecht Natuurlijk facilitates the project by making available ground and equipment to Common Ground Two.

The municipality of Utrecht supports Common Ground Two financially.

At Common Ground Two we work in line with the Global Goals. Many of these worldwide goals come together in our smallscale gardens; by sharing experience and knowledge, by the way we garden and by the input of the participants for and with whom we do this. Inclusive. Future-oriented. And sustainable.

After Common Ground Two started as a small experiment in 2017, in 2018 we set up a little foundation. Members of the board are Joost Meijer, Amer Alzelaa, Sarah van Seumeren, Rosanne Hoeven en Niene Oepkes. The board supports the project on an unpaid basis and recieves no travel allowance.
